ok i dont think i actually believe that im just getting worked up bc this shit is super annoying to me. my main thing is that most people dont have the mental faculties to discern if someone is actually happy or not. people may say they’re happy but if u poke around a little bit into the onion that is their life u can pretty quickly realize oh wow this person wants to kirk themselves fr. which seems like a rational and simple thought to me but if ever do u push back on someones behavior or ask a question or two u get a bunch of mouth breathers who will try to shill the happiness argument on u in an attempt to make u feel like shit.
the example i always bring up to ppl when this subject is broached is that if u were given the option to switch lives w a down syndrome person would you? in theory, they’re always happy and smiley so why not do it? but yet i have never had anyone respond to that question w an emphatic “Yes i will retard myself, thanks for the opportunity sir!”

i think this overall sentiment of prioritizing the outward persona of happiness to the nth degree and ignoring anything else is super frustrating to me bc a lot of people just use it as a trump card and as a lazy excuse to not apply any deeper analysis to the examination of someone elses (or their own) life to see wtf is actually going on.
one of my fav examples is when that toxic couple from back home gets married. they’ve been dating for like 6 years on and off. have definitely cheated on each other. you’ve probably seen them fight at ur local bar bc he’s giga racked to the gills and being super annoying and insuff and she in turn is being a giga thot and just prowling for hog and then he calls her a whore bitch slut or some shit like that. despite all that they have never actually taken any meaningful time apart from another to see if they could maybe not operate like animals and maybe find someone else.
so ya theyre getting married and if ur like “yo this is kinda weird that theyre getting married” some blockhead will undoubtedly be like “WHY WOULD U SAY THAT? THEYRE HAPPY NOW so you should just be HAPPY for them”.
which like makes no sense. theyre probably not happy and someones not the second coming of antichrist for alluding to that fact. like 50% of all marriages ends in divorce. that number goes up way higher when its people who are under the age of 26; which is usually the demographic that tumbles into these ill fated marriages. so in theory the numbers say that theyre probably not happy. if u believe that math is a real thing (on some numbers dont lie); you should be able to say that a couple getting married is probably not happy and youll be right more times than not.
people also use the whole happiness cope as a reason to not try new things which is pretty moronic and something that irks me hella too. you go to someone who’s been living in the same city their entire life or someone who’s working some boring ass dunder mifflin job with no crazy future prospects and go “hey man u ever think about moving somewhere else” or “hey what if you switched into this other thing that may be better for you” and they' go “nah dude im happy where im at everything’s cool” and ppl just expect u to go “oh you said you’re happy? ok then nevermind”
and its like no dude; literally every piece of evidence says this person is just coping sack and doesn’t know what the fuck they’re talking about. they dont even have enough data to be able to say any of that shit. but we’re supposed to take it at face value bc they used the magic word “HAPPY” and ur supposed to be like ya sorry ur goated actually and definitely not ruining ur own potential.
